1. In Chart of Accounts initialize the Last Document Nbr for the Bank Account. Enter the number of the last check number used or enter the check number you wish to begin with minus one in the Last Document Nbr field.
For example, if you want the next check for the given Bank Account to be 5000, you should enter 4999 in the Last Document Nbr. Also, anytime throughout the year, if you want to modify the check number sequence, you will need to update the Last Document Nbr.
For example:
2. Enter the Bank Address information to be printed on the checks. The Company Name, Address Line 1, City, State and Zip Code fields will be printed on checks written for this bank account, if you are using the ObjAcct Standard Blank Check. See also, Bank Address for additional information.
For example:
3. Setup the Bank Account information for the MICR encoding on the checks. Select a Check Document Format that prints a MICR encoded line. If your company only uses one check format, you do not need to specify a check format for each bank account, by default ObjAcct will use the Default Check Document Format in Company Setup.
The MICR line is generated by concatenating the check number, Routing Number and OnUS Field. Check Number is initialized in the Last Document Nbr field for the bank account.
Routing Number identifies the bank holding the account in the Federal Reserve System and should be entered with the MICR codes in the first character and last character.
On-Us Field is a data field in the MICR line on a check reserved for bank use which usually, includes the account number and an optional processing code.
The following MICR symbols should be entered as the corresponding letters in the Routing Number and ON-US Fields:
For example:
4. Below is a sample check (Standard Blank Check format) that was generated using the Bank Account address and routing information from the steps above.
