Balance

There are two ways to set up beginning balances.  As you add each chart of account number you can enter a value in Balance.   Once an account has activity, Balance can no longer be changed. 

The other method is to enter your opening balances as a journal entry in Journal Entry.  Once Allow Entry of Opening Balances in  Company Setupis un-checked, opening balances may no longer be entered.
